Aachen Greening Award (2001-2005)
In late 2001, the Aachen Greening Award was launched by the association Stadtoasen e.V. with the support of the Agenda offices in Aachen (funding) and Cape Town (local organisation).
The Aachen Greening Award was a prize that supported sustainable development projects, especially those that followed ecological and community principles. The prize was awarded annually in Cape Town at the end of the year from 2001-2005. The number of applicants and the quality of the applications increased steadily in the first three years, and in 2003 there were 15 qualified applications from which the winners were selected. In 2004 and 2005, however, interest in start-up funding for a project for one year on the South African side declined significantly, so that the organising associations Stadtoasen e.V. and SEED decided to concentrate their cooperation on the projects in the “Bauwagen goes South” series.
The following projects/institutions were honoured with the award:
2001 Sozebenza Youth Group – Masiphumelele
2002 Eastville Primary School – Mitchells Plain
2003 Mitchells Plain Disability Forum
2004 Communitity Network Forum – Khayelitsha
2005 WD Hendricks Primary School – Kensington
