Faces of a Partnership (2010)

“Meeting the people of the partnership, asking them about their motivation to work with and support the partnership, looking for experiences, memories, changes, impulses, photographing them and developing collages from both interviews and photos – this is the content of the documentary-photographic project “FACES”.

The Aachen artist Uta Göbel-Groß and the Cape Town photographer Ephy Nkunzi realised this project from January to June 2010 and presented the results of their work in the town halls of both twin cities to mark the 10th anniversary of the partnership.

The exhibition was opened in the Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall on 28 July 2010 by Aachen’s Lord Mayor Marcel Philipp. In Cape Town, the exhibition was opened on 20 October 2010 in the Civic Centre by Deputy Mayor Ian Nielsen.

The exhibition was not only an event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the partnership in Aachen and Cape Town, but was also shown on various other occasions and at the homes of the partnership members. In September/October 2010, the posters were exhibited in the foyer of MISEREOR in Aachen, in January 2011 in the Welthaus Aachen during the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of the Welthaus and in March 2011 in cooperation with Selfhelp Manenberg in the Catholic church in Manenberg/Cape Town.
