In the following semester, further potential uses were sought for the limited but available outdoor space in the informal neighbourhoods. Nine students developed concepts for vertical gardens (Vertical Garden), security measures (Bottleshack) and play facilities for children (Tiretower), which can be made from existing and inexpensive materials.
The students built vertical planting walls, safety devices with locking and community alarm systems, as well as a tyre box with play and support material themselves from plastic bottles, fabric ribbons, car tyres, cans, stones and other simple components.
